I think I got it all!!!
My name is Jean Yates. I am from New York.
During trips to New York City when I was growing up, I was lucky enough to spend time at the
Metropolitan Museum of Art. I particularly liked the Egyptian Wing, to which I would repeatedly drag
the whole family. I LOVED all the jewelry and the adornments. I imagined what it would be like to
wear everything there. The first chance I got as a teenager, I had my ears pierced. This was
scandalous to my parents at the time. Finally, my father said, "It's ok, just don't wear earrings!"
I wanted to follow his advice but... I HAD to wear earrings, you see! All good Egyptian Princesses
did.
This super exposure I had at the Met, wandering into the past and exploring all the ways people
show their love of beauty through their fantastic creations, confirms my belief that we have,
through the ages,
always expressed ourselves in a profound way by the jewelry we choose to wear, or by the jewelry
we give to others.
I love reading about the history of beads and jewelry.
During college, I worked several summers at Tiffany & Co. in Manhattan. This was a great
experience which served to further my self taught "jewelry education".
I am very curious about everything! I do a lot of research online. This has helped me develop as a
designer. I love thinking about all sorts of things.

couscous. Actually, now I like risotto. Boy you get sick of couscous pretty fast
and, of course,
my FAMILY
Basically, right now, other than what you just read about me, I am totally preoccupied with creating
JEWELRY of all sorts. Every day, when I wake up, I visualize making magic through designing
beautiful jewelry. Bracelets, necklaces, earrings...They often float around in my head as if they
were already made. I love what I do with a joy I find hard to express!
These days are very exciting ones for me. I was thrilled to present a tutorial of a bracelet I
designed, in "BEADSTYLE MAGAZINE", in November 2005. It was a big hit, and you can see an
example of it here, which is sold... but I have several more as well. Just contact me! They are
superfun and chic bracelets! Kalmbach Publishing Company has chosen it for their cover of a
book they published November, 2006! I had an ad for my kits in Nov. BeadStyle 2006 Magazine,
and in Stringing Fall 2006 as well! I had a tutorial in BeadStyle for Nov.2006, and for May 2007.
Check the Spring 2006 STRINGING Magazine for three projects I designed! "Stringing Fall 2006"
has 2 necklaces, three bracelets, and four sets of earrings in it! This delights me and makes me
very proud! "Simply Beads Magazine" had a project of mine in August 2006, and I appear again in
October and December as well. Three projects in the same magazine for Feb. 2007! I had an
article in their April 2007 issue, and two projects. Excited to say I appeared on the cover! Well, not
me per se,my jewelry! A round of New Tab Cola all around on that!!! I again appear in their
magazine in August, October and December 2007. Then in Feb.08 and April or June! I am also
delighted I appeareded in Beadwork Magazine this October 2006 in a really great collaborative
effort with Kim Miles. It was unforgettable working on that with her. You can see her link on my
links page, and a photo in my gallery. I was in Beadwork in Feb. 2007 as well, in an online PDF.
Presently I am in Beadwork, Dec/Jan. 2007 with a very lovely project, in Simply beads, with a
sweet project in Oct and a dressy project in December, and in Stringing for Winter 2007 with two
fantastic necklaces and a supercool bracelet. In my spare time I am designing earrings for
another publisher, Martingale!
As well as the Kalmbach publication I am on the cover of, and have a tutorial in, I have designing
for two other delightful Martingale books, which came out July 2007. One I am on the cover of! See
the two books both displayed here on this page! Five of my designs travelled the county displayed
in framed velvet boxes representing these books. Wow was I proud! I am also in another
Kalmbach book, the beautifully produced BEADSTYLE EASY BEADING, VOL.3. I will be in Vol 4 as
well, with two (three? --I can't remember!) projects!
Coolest thing: My book LINKS is available for ordering now, at Amazon.com! and through my blog!
Some pieces I designed also made appearances in "BELLE ARMOIRE", in their Salon section for
the September/October 2005 issue, and I am in "BEAD AND BUTTON" in the "Your Work" gallery
in June 2006. These magazines are extremely prestigious, so this was very cool! You can see the
Bead and Button piece in my gallery, page two.
Amazingly (to me!), a small bracelet I designed and a piece I wrote about my family are in Kate
McKinnon's Studio Annual 2004(see Studio Annual 2004 on Kate's site). This is a great honor.
I wish to continue to use my techniques, coupled with my specific flair for color and unique design,
to bring you great jewelry you will totally enjoy. I had fun making every piece you see here, and you
will love wearing it, I am certain. People will stop you and ask where you got your jewelry. Count on
it!
